Time of Crisis

Critical times. We are surrounded by reminders we are in an economically catastrophic era in our country and perhaps in the world. When jobs are lost, security follows. Stress in homes increases. Tempers grow short and people lash out at each other. No where is this more common and least talked about than the American home. Families are struggling with insecurity that many have never had to even consider in their lifetimes. Along with this type of unrest and insecurity, comes the promise of increased domestic violence. Women, children, the elderly and even some men live with a shame they feel can never be talked about. The weaker the role in the family, the more prone they will be to violence. Military families may be more at risk due to the inability of military medicine to keep up with the ever increasing demand for psychiatric care. Families may not realize there are options for them off post, that will not get back to the command if they don't want it to. The military spouse need never know a family member is seeking help. There are options to remove the family members in danger to a safe place. There are answers and help, but people have to know it is ok to ask for help. Teachers can be a first line of defense simply by paying attention to the students and asking questions if a child's behavior changes suddenly. Get involved. Now more than ever we need to take care of each other. We are in this together, let's find some answers together as well.
One place to start looking for help is the United Way. They have hundreds of listings for agencies ro help with counseling and a host of other services. Look to local churches who have lay counselors. Talk to your friends and let them know you need help. The power of two can move mountains and save lives. Now more than ever we need each other. I will include links on this site to various places that can be of help. Please use them and let me know how it works for you. If you find an agency or group that gives you what you need, please share it through a post on this site. Let's start here and now by supporting each other through health, wellness, hope and openness.
